LeapFrog SchoolHouse Wins AEP'S Highest Award

English Picture Dictionary for Spanish Speakers Receives Golden Lamp Award from Association of Educational Publishers

LeapTrack Reading Pro Also Honored

June 27, 2007
Emeryville, CA

LeapFrog SchoolHouse, the school division of LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: LF), today announced that its classroom solutions have won three awards from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The English Picture Dictionary for Spanish Speakers won the 2007 Golden Lamp Award for Books, the highest honor conferred by the supplemental publishing industry, as well as the Distinguished Achievement Award for ESL/ELL Curriculum Package, grades K–5. LeapTrack® Reading Pro, a classroom solution designed for struggling readers, won the Distinguished Achievement Award for Curriculum Package, grades 6–8.

The Picture Dictionary incorporates Spanish audio support and translation in a two-volume interactive print dictionary that helps Spanish-speaking students learn more than 1,000 of the most common English words. Using the Quantum LeapPad® plus Microphone personal learning tool (PLT), the Picture Dictionary presents vocabulary words within more than 40 familiar themes, so that students can quickly learn related words within meaningful contexts. Using the microphone feature of the PLT, students can record and compare their pronunciation of any word in the dictionary, after hearing the word pronounced in English and used in an English sentence.

LeapTrack Reading Pro, recommended for struggling readers in grades 3+, is designed to help students overcome common barriers to reading success. Featuring high-interest content at multiple readability levels from the popular Read-It-All™ interactive book series, Reading Pro enables students to develop better reading fluency through intensive instruction and practice in key comprehension strategies, word work, and vocabulary skills. An extension of the award-winning LeapTrack System for Instruction & Assessment, Reading Pro provides ongoing formative assessment and individualized intervention in a self-paced, multisensory format that does not require student computers.

For four decades, the AEP Awards have recognized significant and excellent achievement in supplemental educational products and education marketing. Products submitted for the awards undergo a rigorous two-tier judging process by highly qualified experts in their respective areas. The judges must unanimously decide on each product's recognition as a finalist. Entries are judged on their creativity, originality, educational value, content versus medium, and ease of use. Additionally, instructional materials are judged in a school and classroom setting. Only 85 products have been honored with the prestigious Golden Lamp Award since the awards began in 1967.

"Over the years, LeapFrog SchoolHouse has made great contributions to the field of educational publishing," said Charlene Gaynor, chief executive officer of AEP. "The Golden Lamp Award is the most prestigious honor within the field of educational publishing, and we're excited that the winner in the book category is the Picture Dictionary, which is reinventing the idea of the book by including multisensory, technology-based curriculum."

"We're thrilled that Picture Dictionary and Reading Pro have received this prestigious recognition from AEP," said Mike Lorion, president of LeapFrog SchoolHouse. "Winning three of these coveted awards provides further evidence that educators can use personal learning tools to deliver engaging, multisensory curriculum that is also effective and easy to implement in the classroom."

The winners were announced at the AEP Annual Awards Banquet & Gala during the AEP Annual Educational Publishing Summit on June 12, 2007, in Washington, DC. A complete list of winners can be found at www.aepweb.org/awards/winners.htm
