As a coordinator of the Providence Glen and Capital Park ODE 21st Century Learning Communities afterschool program, Kelly Budros works with 90 ESL/LEP students in grades 2 – 5. The program focuses on homework help and educational progress as measured by the LeapTrack Assessment & Instruction System. The LeapTrack system helps the program accomplish the first goal of its grant to increase the literacy rate of students.

  The Literacy Center Helps At-Risk Students Perform Above Grade Level
With a student population that is 87% minorities and 82% free/reduced lunch recipients, many of the students at Pinewood Elementary in Charlotte, NC enter school with limited early literacy skills. After Principal Nancy Guzman purchased The Literacy Center for each of her K-3 teachers, she found that among children with limited English proficiency (LEP), 90% of the school's students performed at or above grade level compared to only 65% district-wide.
